The brand new IQOS ILUMA and IQOS ILUMA ONE do not use HEETS, they use something called IQOS TEREA Sticks. What are these new sticks and how do they differ from HEETS? In this blog post we will explain the difference.
The older generation IQOS including the IQOS Originals DUO all used HEETS. HEETS contain a small compressed tobacco plug that would be pushed onto a ceramic heating blade inside of the device. This blade would then heat up the tobacco without burning it, enough to provide a warm vapour to inhale without actually burning the tobacco. This is where the term “heat not burn” comes from.
HEETS generally work very well but the frequent insertion of HEET after HEET meant that the ceramic heating blade would get dirty, sometimes compromising the quality of the draw. Now with regular cleaning of the blade the device will run perfectly but what if there was a better way? Well it turns out that there is, and they are the new TEREA sticks.
TEREA sticks have the blade actually built-in to the tobacco stick. It uses something called induction to heat the tobacco up. This means that there is no longer a blade inside the device to worry about. Everything happens inside of the TEREA stick. This is a huge advantage. It removes the worry of a potential snapped blade and also means that the device will never need cleaning.
