Heat not Burn news roundup – September 2022

Heated tobacco news roundup - March 2023Reading Time: 3 minutes

We haven’t done one of our famous heat not burn news roundups for a while so we thought we would take a quick look at what has been happening in the heated tobacco world recently. Read on to see what we found.

IQOS ILUMA

IQOS Iluma

We are receiving many calls every week from people asking us about the new IQOS Iluma and corresponding Terea HEETS. All we can say on this is at the moment is that are not selling this device because it hasn’t been officially released to the UK market yet. Naturally as soon as we are able to sell it we will be making a lot of noise about it.

The IQOS Iluma (also referred to as the IQOS 4) is a brand new heated tobacco system that is very similar to the excellent IQOS 3 Duo, but is blade-less. It uses what is known as a “smart core induction system” to heat up the tobacco. Because the device itself doesn’t use a blade it means there will be far less contamination. There is actually a blade involved but that is contained inside of each Terea HEET that goes inside the device. Using electromagnetic induction the device heats up the blade inside the Terea HEET very quickly and to the perfect temperature to delver the perfect vape. This means that the device itself will be virtually maintenance-free and very consistent. It is great to see Philip Morris continually innovating.

There will be a similar number of Terea HEETS flavours as the current amount of regular HEETS flavours, almost certainly a flavour for everyone’s taste. As we hear more on this brand new device we will keep you updated.

British American Tobacco

British American Tobacco long term study

The excellent Grocer Magazine has run an excellent article on a study from BAT (British American Tobacco) indicating the benefits of smokers switching to heat not burn devices.

We already know from countless peer reviewed studies from Philip Morris that heated tobacco is less harmful than traditional cigarette smoking but it is always great to see another study confirming this.

This was a year-long UK study of smokers aged between 23 and 55 years of age in generally good health. The participants attended clinics every month and had their blood and urine tested along with other measurements. The samples were then tested for “biomarkers of exposure” (BoE) and also “biomarkers of potential harm.”

The device used for this study was the BAT Glo and the results showed that smokers that switched achieved “significant and sustained improvements in several indicators of potential harm associated with early disease development”, compared with smokers who continued to smoke.

Detailed results of this study can be found at Internal and Emergency Medicine.

Independent News Online South AfricaExcellent myth-busting article out of South Africa

IOL (Independent Online) is one of South Africa’s leading news and information websites. They have released a brilliant article explaining many of the myths surrounding smoke free alternatives and laid it out in a very easy to digest manner.

We would obviously say that heated tobacco products are less harmful than regular cigarettes because we sell them but there is now mounting evidence piling up showing that this is very much the case, which of course we knew already.

This article is part of Philip Morris’s “Unsmoke Your World” global campaign to get smokers to quit, and when they don’t quit, to change.
