If you’re a regular reader of this site – and you should be – you’re probably aware that if you live in the USA, and want access to the latest in effective Heat not Burn devices, you’re basically stuffed. Philip Morris submitted a Pre Market Tobacco Authorization for the iQOS in 2017, but for the last two years they’ve basically been sitting on it. Well, at last there’s some good news; the FDA approves IQOS and American smokers should finally be able to buy the world’s leading HnB system.
Tasmania isn’t a place you tend to hear of much. Apart from giving us interesting animals like the Tasmanian devil it just sits there south of Australia being quietly… well, Tasmanian. Well, I wish it would keep doing that, because the latest news from the island is not good for Heat not Burn. It isn’t true either, but since when did that stop the media – not to mention the usual crowd of “public health” pests – from making a fuss?
A team of researchers led by Dr Sukhwinder Sohal of the University of Tasmania has just produced a study which, they claim, shows that vaping – whether with HnB products or conventional e-cigarettes – is just as bad for you as smoking.
Personally I’m a fan of Philip Morris International’s “Hold My Light” campaign. I’ve been advocating for tobacco harm reduction for years, and it’s good to see PMI throw their weight behind the same cause. Campaigns like this have the potential to make a huge difference, and I think they should be encouraged.
